CLEMENGER INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT 2010
Formula Vee National Series
Round 1 - Mallala 1-2 May
This
was our first official outing for the 2010 season and
it was great to be able to see where the best guys in
the country were in relation to us. I got a lot out seeing
how the interstaters do things and it was a pleasure to
be able to race wheel to wheel with them.
After qualifying third, I was penalised and sent to the rear of grid for race one for a red flag incident in qualifying. Although frustrating, I had no one to blame but myself for the mistake and we set some new goals for the weekend. The first was to get to 5th by the end of Saturdays racing. I managed to claw my way from 24th to 12th in race 1 and to 6th in race 2, which put me off the third row for Sunday morning's 8 lapper.
Ben Porter, Michael Kinsella and Daniel Renyolds had been the 3 at the front all weekend and it was important to get on their tails early in the race before they drove away. I did this by lap 2 and we opened a big gap on the field. I lead briefly before coming home 3rd.
Unfortunately in race 4 I didn't quite have enough for them and finished 4th. I could sit in the draft but couldn't take advantage.
We know exactly what we need to improve to race properly with them now and it was an extremely successful weekend. I'm looking forward to when they come back later in the year for the National Championships.
Big thanks to the AJR team for their fantastic efforts over the weekend and the last 6 months.
